Unwanted wrinkles, cellulite and stubborn excess fat pockets plague even the most physically fit. Until recently, the options have been limited to undergoing extensive plastic surgery or living with the wrinkles and cellulite. However, the procedures of Javani and no-needle Mesotherapy -- new to the metro area -- redesign and reshape the body without the use of needles or surgery. Javani skin rejuvenation takes micronized bovine collagen and induces it into the skin to build back collagen lost due to the aging process. It is the only product on the market scientifically proven to increase collagen. "It brings you back to youth," said Petra Karjanis, L.P.N., and certified aesthetician. Karjanis and The Steelman Clinic have been utilizing Javani with patients since October. Javani is superior to other solutions available because of the type of collagen it builds, she said. "No one else on the market has collagen No. 1 and that is what makes Javani so special." Collagen No. 1 is the specific type of collagen lost with age. Javani is a simple and painless procedure for the patient. "My friends tell me I look great and I don't look my age," said Joyce Nickell, 60, who recently was treated with Javani at The Steelman Clinic. "When I meet people, they can't believe I'm 60." A gel is applied to the skin with an ultrasound machine. Most patients receive a series of eight treatments over an eight-week period and then follow up once a month for maintenance. Nickell researched her options and chose Javani simply because it was a non-invasive procedure. "I was leery about having anything done to my face that was invasive," she said. Each treatment takes about 20 minutes and is not damaging to the skin. In addition to the treatments, Karjanis recommends patients use a prescribed cream at home twice a day. Patients can expect to see rejuvenation of their skin, the thickened elastin and a tighter, smoother appearance. The clinic is so convinced the patient will see marked improvement, they are offering a money-back guarantee after the two-month treatment period if marked improvement is not achieved. Another new procedure at The Steelman Clinic is no-needle mesotherapy. Dr. Michael Steelman, who was recently named national bariatrician of the year, is the only Oklahoma physician performing this breakthrough procedure. No-needle Mesotherapy is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction. The procedure originally required needles and resulted in bruising and swelling. But the new treatment eliminates stretch marks, pockets of fat and the appearance of cellulite, with needles and pain. "Mesotherapy tells the cell to release so it can drain through the lymphatic system. On the other hand, liposuction removes the cell altogether," said Karjanis. D. Newalla recently underwent mesotherapy treatment and has been pleased with her results. "My cellulite was reduced, my skin was tightened and it no longer bulges," said Newalla. In addition, Newalla noticed a reduction in the visibility of her stretch marks. "You know how after you have two really big babies, things just hang. They dont do that anymore," she said. Mesotherapy is an eight- to 10-treatment process involving lasers and electrical stimulation. It smoothes cellulite, diminishes bulges and reduces inches. The ideal mesotherapy patient is no more than 30 pounds from their goal weight and is currently following a diet and exercise regimen, said Karjanis.
